It is shown that the noise levels are close to those measured at similar units in the United States, and that the radiation is uniform in the vertical and horizontal plane. A comparatively large distance (800 to 2500 m) is needed between the prototypes and residential locations if the same basis for forming a judgement is used as for industrial noise. With suitable measures (sound insulation of machinery housing, increased cut-in wind speed, variable rotational speed of turbine) the distance for an upwind unit is reduced to 300 to 500 m, provided the masking effect of natural wind sound is taken into account. 收起
