The fluid-force coefficients in the model are determined from available experimental data. It is found that there are three dynamic instability mechanisms: galloping controlled by fluid damping, flutter controlled by fluidelastic force, and coupled galloping-flutter instability controlled by both fluid damping and fluidelastic force. Closed-form solutions of the critical flow velocity for galloping and flutter are obtained based on constrained modes. Experimental data are found to be in good agreement with the analytical results.
