Corrosion inhibitors were developed that can be electrically injected into concrete matrices using an in situ technique. The study showed that such inhibitor injection can provide adequate corrosion protection to rebars embedded in chloride-contaminated concrete. It was demonstrated that inhibitors developed under the project provide 78 to 85 percent corrosion protection for the rebars. An important advantage of the technique is that the equipment required is similar to that used in cathodic protection, and therefore it is familiar to highway engineers. Another advantage is that inhibitor injection requires a temporary installation for only a few days, whereas cathodic protection requires a permanent installation. 收起
