In a spread spectrum multiple accessenvironment co-channel interference (CCI) limits the performance of thecommunication link. To remove this interference, several CCIcancellation techniques have been proposed, including a technique thatdoes not require the receiver to have knowledge of the cross-correlationbetween user sequences. This method leaves residual interference afterthe cancellation caused by errors in the initial decisions. To reducethe residual interference and improve the initial decisions, theproposed scheme utilizes the error-correcting capability of orthogonalconvolutional codes. This paper evaluates the performance of thisscheme. Our results show that the proposed CCI canceller offers animprovement in capacity of a factor of 1.5~3 as compared with aconventional canceller on a multipath Rayleigh fading channel. Theproposed canceller works in the presence of residual interference due toimperfect cancellation. The proposed canceller also has a capacityimprovement with the use of soft handoff in a multicell configuration 收起
