The lack of consensus regarding this type of thirdparty disclosure is apparent in both bioethics literature and in human subjects research guidelines (Tassé 2011). Here, we argue that the ethical obligation to return genetic results to a subject's relatives depends as much on the relationship between the researcher and the subject as on the results obtained. Specifically, the researcher's ethical obligation to disclose genetic results depends on whether his or her relationship with the subject exists exclusively within the research context or whether the researcher also serves as the subject's physician. 收起
