Most steelmaking wastes contain a certain amount of CaO. To use these solid wastes, the effect of CaO in the preparation of Fe/FeAl_2O_4 by Fe_2O_3-Al_2O_3 electrolysis was thermodynamic analyzed. The results showed that CaO may react with Fe_2O_3 and Al_2O_3 to produce CaAl_4O_7, CaAl_2O_4, CaAl_(12)O_(19), CaFe2O_4, and Ca_2Fe_2O_5 in the process of the experiment. The formation of CaAl_4O_7, CaAl_2O_4, CaAl_(12)O_(19) can be inhibited by controlling the ratio of raw materials, and CaFe2O_4, Ca_2Fe_2O_5 can be electrolyzed by adjusting the electrolysis voltage. Combined with the calculation results, NaCl-KCl molten salt system was selected in this experiment. The mole ratio of NaCl to KCl was 1:1, and the optimal reaction temperature range was 800-900 °C. The molar ratio of Al_2O_3 to Fe_2O_3 was 1:2. The range of the theoretical decomposition voltage was -1.05~-1.21 V. Under these experimental conditions, the presence of CaO will affect the preparation process, but it will not affect the produce of Fe/FeAl_2O_4 theoretically.
