There will be growth in the US and Europe, but the most significant growth will be in Asia. As the use of packaging increases so will the complexity and functionality of the packages also increase. Active and intelligent packaging are two of the areas that are showing significant innovation in their functionality and this will continue. This paper will focus on the applications and solutions that are currently available and those that are being developed in research activities at companies and also at universities.

A roadmap for future developments is presented based on identified research papers with the focus on the market. The review starts with the heterogeneous integration roadmap. Next, emerging technologies will be highlighted in concerns of new packaging technologies. Their specific packaging requirements are highlighted, packaging types used for the application are named and specific challenges like increased reliability demands are presented. The review rounds up with new technology aspects like GaN, SiC and sequential integration. In this paper, parts of the SMTA PanPac 2020 publication are included.

As part of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP) initiated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the South Florida Water Management District, numerous improvements to the water management systems of southern Florida have been proposed. These improvements include, but are not limited to, the conversion of mining quarries to reservoirs, surface water impoundments, canals and water management structures. In support of the ground water modeling efforts needed to evaluate these types of water management alternatives, several new MODFLOW modules were developed. These modules enable ground water flow models to also simulate flow within wetlands as well as interactions between ground water and reservoirs. These modules include the Wetlands package (Restrepo, et.al.,1998), a modified Lake package (Nair and Wilsnack, 1998) the Reinjection Drainflow Package (McDonald and Jones, 1999) and the Operations package (Welter, 2000). The Wetlands Package is fundamentally based on the physics of surface water flow processes in wetlands and provides a means to avoid the periodic drying and rewetting of cells. A modified version of an existing Lake package (Council, 1998) was developed to simulate stages in deep mining quarries that are in direct hydraulic contact with ground water. This enhanced Lake package utilizes an implicit formulation for quarry-aquifer interactions. Furthermore, the Reinjection Drain Flow package was developed to represent drains whose inflow is re-injected into the ground-water or wetland flow system. Finally, the Operations package was formulated to allow water to be transported throughout the model domain in accordance with a variety of water management rules.
