Background: Community-based Men's Sheds programs are an example of a health promotion initiative that aims to promote psychosocial health and wellbeing in older men. A community-based Men's Shed is a large shed that supports men to come together and undertake activities, most commonly woodwork and/or metalwork. This qualitative descriptive study explores men's experiences of participating in a Men's Shed program and how these experiences may impact on their health and wellbeing. Methods: A case study of a community-based Men's Shed within a rural community was used to explore men's experiences of participating in a Men's Shed program. Qualitative descriptive methodology was used in this research. The data to build a case study were collected through in-depth interviews with participants involved in the Men's Shed. The qualitative data were analysed thematically. Results: The results of this study indicate that Men's Sheds can have a role in promoting the health and wellbeing of men who participate in them by supporting their engagement in activities they enjoy and find meaningful. This, in turn, provides a sense of purpose and identity. The social environment of Men's Sheds leads to the development of positive social relationships with other men and a sense of belonging. Reviewed literature demonstrates the importance of these psychosocial aspects for health and wellbeing. Conclusions: Men's Sheds enhance the health and wellbeing of the men who are participant in them. Elements that support Men's Sheds to be health promoting include being inclusive, providing a male-friendly space and recognising the intrinsic health benefits of Men's Sheds. 漏 2008 WPMH GmbH. Clothing is one of the basic needs of human being. Clothing is one means of value expression used by individuals, families and society as a whole. Each individual develops a self concept based largely on interaction with other people. All through life, individuals choose clothing that will obtain a positive reaction from the other people. A study was conducted to know variety of clothing present in men's wardrobe. One hundred twenty male teaching staff member were selected as sample by stratified random sampling technique from four different colleges. A self structure questionnaire was used as tool for survey. All male's outfits divided into six categories i.e., casual, formal, winter, groom, night and sport wear category. The respondents selected were divided into below 40 years and above 40 years of age. The result revealed that all respondents had readymade garment in their wardrobe. Home made clothing articles included sweater, cardigan from winter, and pajama from night clothing. Respondents of both age groups had tailor made formal and groom clothing.

Stigma in men's depression and suicide can restrict help-seeking, reduce treatment compliance and deter individuals from confiding in friends and family. In this article we report sex comparison findings from a national survey of English-speaking adult Canadians about stigmatized beliefs concerning male depression and suicide. Among respondents without direct experience of depression or suicide (n = 541) more than a third endorsed the view that men with depression are unpredictable. Overall, a greater proportion of males endorsed stigmatizing views about male depression compared to female respondents. A greater proportion of female respondents endorsed items indicating that men who suicide are disconnected, lost and lonely. Male and female respondents with direct personal experience of depression or suicide (n = 360) strongly endorsed stigmatizing attitudes toward themselves and a greater proportion of male respondents indicated that they would be embarrassed about seeking help for depression.

This article examines the three representative forms of Korean men's groups and movements, including men's rights, conservative evangelical, and profeminist groups. By analyzing how the discourses and practices of each group relate to hegemonic masculinity, this paper will demonstrate how hegemonic masculinities are expressed, enacted, renegotiated, or challenged in public and political spheres and how each of these three groups is complicit with, reinforces, or resists the politics of hegemonic masculinity. Based on the critical evaluation of these three forms of masculinity politics in Korean society, some of the challenges and prospects for profeminist politics of masculinity are discussed.

The present study aimed to assess (i) the impact of screening consultation on male partner's knowledge about second trimester maternal serum screening for Down syndrome and on their attitudes toward amniocentesis, and (ii) the concomitant effect of men's involvement in pregnancy on both knowledge and attitudes. The study included 164 men who accompanied their partners to the screening appointment. Knowledge Questionnaire and Partner's Involvement in Pregnancy Scale with two dimensions, support and distance, were administered. Involvement in pregnancy was determined using two factors; support and distance. Findings revealed a significant post-consultation improvement in men's knowledge about the test, but less-educated men and those who were more distanced from partner and pregnancy were less knowledgeable even post-consultation. Compared to before the consultation, most men had a positive attitude toward amniocentesis and were willing to suggest it to their partners in case of positive test results (77 % and 42 %, respectively). The remainder would either leave the decision to their partners (20 %) or were undecided (3 %). Higher perception of distance was associated with men's unwillingness to be involved in amniocentesis decisions, particularly before consultation. However, the consultation had considerable potential to engage men with this attitude in the decision-making process. The study highlights the need to change woman-oriented prenatal screening practices for Down syndrome to involve their male partners in the consultation.

In the past 20 years, in the province of Quebec, Canada, there has been an active social response to men’s health issues, from local initiatives to research and national public health policies, such as the Men’s Health Action Plan 2017–2022, created by the Ministry of Health and Social Services. Although Quebec has developed and implemented many initiatives in this field of study, they remain largely unknown outside of the French-speaking regions. This paper seeks to make Quebec’s model available for an international audience and to inform a wider debate about gender and health issues. The main focus was to review the key community and institutional milestones that brought about this model. Challenges and limitations to the model are discussed within a wider debate on gender and health studies. Closing remarks support the relevance ofgreater inclusion of men’s health content in university courses.

Little is known of men's knowledge of cervical cancer and its links with human papillomavirus (HPV), or of their attitudes and beliefs about HPV vaccination. This is despite men's sexual behaviour contributing to HPV transmission and their potential role in deciding whether their children are vaccinated against HPV. To address this, a comprehensive survey was conducted in Singapore where plans are underway for an HPV vaccination program. A representative sample of 930 Singaporean men was found to have moderate knowledge of cervical cancer but poor knowledge and awareness of HPV. Although these men showed strong support for HPV vaccination, overall findings highlight the importance of including men in education campaigns that aim to decrease the incidence of cervical and other HPV-related cancers and to increase the uptake of HPV vaccination.
