As libraries migrate to new integrated library management systems, MARC holdings implementation often becomes an option or a requirement. The implementation of MARC holdings can be a long-term process but there are long-term advantages to using the standard. Penn State University Libraries implemented MARC holdings for serials in conjunction with their migration to a new library management system and the need to manage and display holdings information for a multi-campus library system. The implementation of MARC holdings coupled with a system implementation can be challenging for all staff. Short-term and long-term goals for holdings display and management need to be developed.

Inventory models for deteriorative items with stock-dependent demand for deteriorative items in linear, quadratic and exponential time dependent holding cost are considered in this study. To wit, no study exists that uses effect of stock-dependent demand for deteriorative items in linear, quadratic and exponential time dependent holding cost. Four models are developed: the first model uses stock-dependent demand with constant holding cost; the second model uses stock-dependent demand in linear holding cost; the third model uses stock-dependent demand in quadratic holding cost; and the fourth model uses stock-dependent demand with exponential holding cost. Mathematical models are delineated for each model and relevant examples are provided to elucidate the proposed procedure. The objective herein is to obtain optimum order quantities and order intervals with respect to overall cost. Numerical examples are provided for all four cases to validate the proposed model. Sensitivity analysis is provided for each of the four models. The necessary data was generated using visual basic 6.0.

Handwriting is a neuro-muscular activity and is individualistic in nature. The ability of hand in creating the writing involves complexmechanism of the combined movement of fingers, thumb and hand which is controlled by the timed neural response system. Pen hold is themanner in which pen is held by an individual and also acts as one of the habitual characteristic features. Unaccustomed pen hold refers to themanner in which the pen is held by an individual is not seasoned with. This study was conducted to determine the variation in handwritingbetween natural pen hold and unaccustomed pen hold. To achieve the desired objective, the class characteristics were determined for bothnatural and unaccustomed pen hold samples. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software was used to run the IndependentSample T-Test for the obtained raw data. On analysis, it was found that, line quality and tremor showed significant difference in handwritingbetween natural and unaccustomed pen hold samples. But characteristics such as alignment, spacing, slant, pen pressure, baseline, hesitationand size showed no significant difference in handwriting between natural as well as unaccustomed pen hold samples and therefore would assesin data analysis.

Effort to improve the functional properties of jackfruit seed flour has been made by introducing Lactobacillus plantarum fermentation on the jackfruit chips, which are latter processed into flour. The jackfruit chips were fermented using L. plantarum for up to 32 hours, and air dried before they were grounded to pass through an 80 mesh sifter. The results of the experiment showed water holding capacity (WHC) of fermented flour was higher compared with that of the unfermented. The longer fermentation time, the higher the WHC of the flour. In contrast, the flour oil holding capacity (OHC) decreased during longer incubation time, indicating that some shorter amyloses were released during fermentation. Earlier studies on pasting characteristics of jackfruit seed showed that the peak, setback and breakdown viscosity of fermented jackfruit seed flour were higher compared with that of unfermented flour, indicating that fermented flour will have a higher thickening power and is more susceptible to heat and mechanical shear. This finding indicates L. plantarum fermentation will increase the potency of jackfruit seed flour for food industry application either as a thickener and or biodegradable film. Furthermore, HPLC analysis of the soluble saccharide of fermented flour showed the differences of oligosaccharides content such as raffinose, stachiose and verbaschose, indicating the capability of the enzymes released by L. plantarum during fermentation to hydrolyse the starch to become shorter oligosaccharide but without monosaccharide.

Date palm fruit from 11 Tunisian cultivars (Phoenix dactylifera?L.) were analyzed for their main chemical composition. Results showed that date fruits were rich in sugar (79.93 - 88.02 g/100 g dry matter), fiber (8.09 - 20.25 g/100 g dry matter) and ash (1.73 - 2.59 g/100 g dry matter). Mineral fraction was dominated by potassium and sugar fraction was dominated by reducing sugar (glucose, fructose) except for Deglet Nour, Kentichi and Bajo which are rich in sucrose. Date fiber concentrates (DFC) were extracted and analyzed for their proximate content (moisture, fiber, protein, lipid and ash) and some functional properties such as water holding capacity (WHC) and oil holding capacity (OHC). DFC presented high dietary fiber content (90.71 - 93.92 g/100g dry matter). Protein and lipid contents (dry matter basis) ranged between 3.66 and 6.06 g/100 g and between 0.35 and 1.08 g/100 g, respectively. DFC presented high WHC (6.20 g water/g dry fiber) and high OHC (1.80 g oil/g dry fiber). Results showed that dates could be a valuable source of highly techno-functional fibers that could be used in food formulations.

Because of the difficulty of corporate cash flow forecasting and cash demand forecasting, the corporate cash holding decisions have always been a focus in theory and practice. This paper constructs corporate cash holding patterns by combining the two basic characteristics of cash holding level and volatility, and uses the dynamic panel model to test the impact of different cash holding patterns on corporate performance. The research findings reveal that there are significant differences in the impact of different cash holding patterns on corporate performance, with the stable and normal-level cash holding pattern having the greatest positive impact, while volatile and low-level cash holding pattern proved to be greatest negative impacts.

Purpose - This study aims to compare the short-run performance of construction and non-construction initial public offerings (IPOs) that are offered in India during 2006-2015. The study also attempts to investigate the impact of ownership structure (i.e. concentrated ownership in the hand of promoters and institutional ownership) and market sentiment on the performance of construction sector IPOs in short run. Design/methodology/approach - A total of 281 IPOs were listed at National Stock Exchange, India, during the study period, and 44 of those were from construction sector. The short-run performance of these construction and non-construction IPOs was compared using two indicators, i.e. monthly stock return (SR) and excess return over market benchmark (MAR). To examine the effect of concentrated ownership in the hand of promoters, institutional ownership and market sentiment on IPO performance, systematic dynamic panel regression model was developed. Findings - The IPOs of construction firms perform significantly better than the non-construction firms. The performance of construction IPOs is significantly driven by the lag effect. This suggests a significant informational inefficiency, which results in a delayed reaction by investors. The market sentiment has a positive influence on the performance of construction sector IPOs, whereas the institutional holding has a negative influence. Originality/value - To the best of the author's knowledge, this study is the first attempt to examine the performance of construction sector IPOs in short run. The study uses systematic dynamic panel data regression, which provides better and reliable estimates.

The use of flours derived from Andean products could be an alternative flour. Molecules with a potential beneficial effect on human health have been reported in maca (Lepidium meyenii) (dietary fibre, Mg, Ca, K, functional polysaccharides, etc.) and amaranth (Amaranthus caudatus) (squalene, linoleic acid, P, Ca, K, Mg, dietary fibre, etc.). However, from an industrial point of view, these new ingredients must be characterized in their techno-functional properties. The objective of this work was to analyze the techno-functional parameters of the amaranth and maca flours (NW) and whole (W) flours, in terms of water holding capacity (WHC, g/g), oil holding capacity (OHC, g/g), swelling capacity (SC, mL/g), foaming capacity (FC, %) and emulsifying capacity (EC, mL). The particle size of flours was also analyzed. The results indicated that the highest values for WHC were obtained in maca flour (NW) with 2.45 g of retained water/g of sample. The highest values of OHC were observed for NW flours (around 1.02 g of absorbed oil/g of sample). Meanwhile, for the variables FC and EC, the highest values were obtained for amaranth (NW) with 16.67% and amaranth (W) with 139.44 mL, respectively. Therefore, the results obtained allow us to consider the incorporation of these types of flours to different food products, knowing their effect on WHC, OHC, EC, and pH, and therefore being able to modify the processes concerning the traditional ones. This is especially interesting in the case of the meat products elaboration process in which these parameters could be critical, with the addition of these type of flours.

Content of this article was driven by forensic investigation of a failed pressurized concrete water holding structure. Forensic analysis of that particular structure, review of the original design documents, and review of some comments made during the litigation revealed a very disturbing design tendency: many design professionals tend to oversimplify the design approach. As a result, tank owners receive a deficient design, a problem frequently litigated in the Courts. Omissions in the tank design are costly and frequently irreversible. The following discussion is written with the intention of helping design professionals, contractors, and tank owners to better understand the issues linked to design and construction of successful, watertight water holding structures.
