? 2022 American Society for Surgery of the HandA surgical video can improve patient care, surgical education, as well as scientific presentations and publications. Previous authors have outlined a basic understanding of how to produce high-quality surgical videos. With continuous technological improvements in video-filming hardware and editing software, multiple options for producing high-quality surgical videos are available. This article described important aspects of filming and editing videos to create a video that the surgeon can watch before performing the procedure. The authors reviewed camera terminology, including resolution, optical and digital zoom, shutter speed, and frame rate, as well as equipment options or setup for recording high-quality surgical videos. We provided information regarding computer requirements and editing on Windows and Macintosh operating systems, optimizing educational value for the viewer.

We present a system for efficiently editing video of dialogue-driven scenes. The input to our system is a standard film script and multiple video takes, each capturing a different camera framing or performance of the complete scene. Our system then automatically selects the most appropriate clip from one of the input takes, for each line of dialogue, based on a user-specified set of film-editing idioms. Our system starts by segmenting the input script into lines of dialogue and then splitting each input take into a sequence of clips time-aligned with each line. Next, it labels the script and the clips with high-level structural information (e.g., emotional sentiment of dialogue, camera framing of clip, etc.). After this pre-process, our interface others a set of basic idioms that users can combine in a variety of ways to build custom editing styles. Our system encodes each basic idiom as a Hidden Markov Model that relates editing decisions to the labels extracted in the pre- process. For short scenes (< 2 minutes, 8-16 takes, 6-27 lines of dialogue) applying the user-specified combination of idioms to the pre-processed inputs generates an edited sequence in 2-3 seconds. We show that this is significantly faster than the hours of user time skilled editors typically require to produce such edits and that the quick feedback lets users iteratively explore the space of edit designs.

Video editing is considered as a process of manipulating video and audio data with video editing software. With advances in video editing/device technologies, many useful tools are presented to support effective video editing even for novice users. In this paper, we introduce a new video editing tool named LetsVi which provides systematic collaboration features through the associated group workspaces utilized by the C3ware collaborative middleware. LetsVi supports workspaces over cloud storage with user groups defined by the XMPP messaging service. The video editing functions of LetsVi is presented by extending the Pitivi open source video editing tool with useful collaborative functions.

The manipulation of video content is still a difficult task due to its complexity and richness. This paper applies pen-based technology to video editing, with the goal to improve such interaction. In this research, digital ink is replaced by video content, aiming to provide a more familiar and creative interaction for video editing and to study how pen gestures can be used on this context as well as what kind of changes are needed in the interface. The concept was implemented in a Tablet PC prototype and evaluated by expert and non-expert users. The user feedback shows that this approach proved to be natural and at the same time to foster user creativity as measured by the Creative Support Index.

In the coming digital age, a lack of video contents makes a serious problem. To solve this problem, an efficient video editing is required because it consumes a lot of works. To do the video editing, useful shots have to be extracted from raw video materials for broadcasting. The shot extraction is unefficient and occupies the most part of the video editing. This paper proposes a method to automatically extract the useful shots.

Edit propagation is an appearance-editing method using sparsely provided edit strokes from users. Although edit propagation has a wide variety of applications, it is computationally complex, owing to the need to solve large linear systems. To reduce the computational cost, interpolation-based approaches have been studied intensely. This study is inspired by an interpolation-based edit-propagation method that uses a clustering algorithm to determine samples. The method uses an interpolant, which approximates edit parameters with convex combinations of the samples. However, because the clustering algorithm generates samples that lie inside the set of pixels in a feature space, an interpolant with convex combinations does not allow for an exact reconstruction of the pixels outside the convex hull. To address this issue, this paper proposes a novel approximation model for interpolating image colors as well as edit parameters using affine combinations. In addition, this paper introduces sparse pixel sampling to determine the quantity and positions of samples and the weight coefficients of the affine combinations simultaneously. Sparse pixel sampling is performed by updating candidate pixels. Unnecessary pixels are discarded with compressive sensing, and new candidate pixels are greedily resampled following their approximation errors. This paper demonstrates that the proposed model achieves better approximation in terms of both image colors and edit parameters, and discusses the properties of the proposed model with various experiments.

This paper presents the OpenDelos platform implemented in the context of the project “Central Repository of Greek Open Courses”. OpenDelos is an online video editing and publishing platfοrm for online courses, e.g., Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). OpenDelos is a unique open source platform that supports not only video on demand functionality but also live streaming functionality along with the related scheduling functionality. OpenDelos is suitable for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) offering (a) academic roles structure, (b) unique data presentation of the (c) searching and browsing features, (d) hosting of open multimedia and educational content. The main goal of this paper is to present the technical aspects of OpenDelos platform. Τhus, this paper describes OpenDelos’ architecture, modules, and implementation issues. Furthermore, the heuristic usability evaluation conducted by experts during the implementation of OpenDelos platform is presented. The heuristic evaluation showed that OpenDelos did not present major usability problems. Experts’ comments have been taken into account to improve the platform. The improved version is ready and it has been distributed to the end users in order to measure end users’ acceptance towards OpenDelos.

We present ChunkStream, a system for efficient streaming and interactive editing of online video. Rather than using a specialized protocol and stream format, ChunkStream makes use of a generic mechanism employing chunks. Chunks are fixed-size arrays that contain a mixture of scalar data and references to other chunks. Chunks allow programmers to expose large, but fine-grained, data structures over the network. ChunkStream represents video clips using simple data types like linked lists and search trees, allowing a client to retrieve and work with only the portions of the clips that it needs. ChunkStream supports resource-adaptive playback and "live" streaming of real-time video as well as fast, frame-accurate seeking; bandwidth-efficient high-speed playback; and compilation of editing decisions from a set of clips. Benchmarks indicate that ChunkStream uses less bandwidth than HTTP Live Streaming while providing better support for editing primitives.

Given the huge amounts of audiovisual materials that are broadcasted every day there is considerable interest in applications that are able to fulfill our need for selecting information. In this paper, we propose a system, VideoZapper, which can personalize and help to select audiovisual content based on its properties (represented as metadata descriptors) and mainly on the past experience of other users with that material. The content is selected based on the user profile and the description of each of the segments to be presented. A second level of selection is based on a "virtual edition" of the content, taking into account what previous users/viewers did. The paper presents related personalization and metadata approaches, the rational and principles for continuous media personalization, our current architecture and system, and preliminary experiences.

This study examines an automatic broadcast soccer video composition system. The research is important as the ability to automatically compose broadcast sports video will not only improve broadcast video generation efficiency, but also provides the possibility to customize sports video broadcasting. We present a novel approach to the two major issues required in the system's implementation, specifically the camera view selection/switching module and the automatic replay generation module. In our implementation, we use multi-modal framework to perform video content analysis, event and event boundary detection from the raw unedited main/sub-camera captures. This framework explores the possible cues using mid-level representations to bridge the gap between low-level features and high-level semantics. The video content analysis results are utilized for camera view selection/switching in the generated video composition, and the event detection results and mid-level representations are used to generate replays which are automatically inserted into the broadcast soccer video. Our experimental results are promising and found to be comparable to those generated by broadcast professionals.
