Data were collected through administering a well-structured ques... 展开 This study assesses farmers' knowledge, attitude and practice towards safe use of pesticides. One hundred and sixty-two farmers were randomly selected for the study. Data were collected through administering a well-structured questionnaire. Data analysis was done by SPSS (version 17). A large number of the farmers were above 25 years old (91%). They were predominantly male (73%) and about 82% were married. The result shows that a large proportion of the respondents (95%) used chemical pesticides forthe control of pests and diseases. The most frequently used pesticide was herbicides. It was observed that not all the respondent farmers purchased pesticides from agrochemical dealers. Sixty-nine percent of the respondents are aware of environmental andhealth hazards of pesticide while 44% do not know that pesticides cause environmental and health hazards. A common practice among the farmers is to mix different pesticides for application resulting in over dosage. A large proportion (65%) of the respondents re-use pesticide containers and only 35% use protective clothe when applying these chemicals. The need for proper education and rigorous extension work among the farmers are highlighted. There is the need to create awareness among farmers about theenvironmental effect of pesticides. An active health education campaign and appropriate training should be implemented to promote safe use of pesticides. 收起
