The study of genetic parameters in 17 parents and their 15 F<sub>1</sub> combinations revealed high estimates of variation for days to flowering and phenol content in parents and for days to flowering and number of inflorescences per plant in F<sub>1</sub> progenies. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance as per cent of mean was observed for days to flowering, days to maturity, phenol content, plant height, number of pods per plant, number of inflorescences per plant, SLA 40 DAS, pod yield per plant and SLA 60 DAS in parents as well as F<sub>1</sub>'s indicating predominance of additive gene action in field bean.
