This area is being reclaimed now to be a link between Toshka Depression and Al-Kha... 展开 THE STUDIED area'is located between latitudes 23 - 36 & 24 - 14 N and longitudes 30 deg 09 & 30 deg 32 E, it incorporate an area of 685440 feddans. This area is being reclaimed now to be a link between Toshka Depression and Al-Kharga Oasis. The present study aims at evaluating the agricultural potentiality of the soils in the study area to determine the most appropriate land use. To achieve this objective Landsat ETM~+ images, digital elevation model and data limited to land surveying were used fordelineating the region's main physiographic units. It is found that the main physiographic units are plateaus, hilland, and depression floor. The depression floor territory was represented with 10 soil profiles; water samples were collected from eight wells. The results of laboratory analysis and land survey were used to assess the land qualities and outline the limiting factors, then soil suitability of 23 land uses (LU) were extracted. The benefit-cost ratio was used for assessing the economic suitability of the selected crops. Results indicate that the agricultural potentiality in the study area is limit by the lack of nutrient elements, wind erosion vulnerability, and soil texture. The water wells in the area have a high quality as the salinity isnot exceed 1.5 dS/m and the percentage of exchangeable sodium was less than 5.0 in all samples. The results of land and economic availability show that the best crops appropriate the soil conditions and achieved high economic feasibility are as follows,1.Economic native vegetation such as Agol, sand trees, sammar, Halfaa, Bawaal, Qordaob, Bardi, and Qortom. 2.Filed crops such as onion, garlic, watermelon and wheat. 3.Fruits such as olive, date palms and citrus. 收起
