In the UK specifically we see the high street shops, in particular those for healthfood, losing ground as demand becomes more and more monolithic.Supermarkets start to struggle for margin as turnover drops, and the focus is now purely on price. There is very little going on in terms of marketing, or new product development, even at the level of new fruit and nut mixes. Meanwhile, at origin, farmers continue to improve their lot, having the funds to avoid selling at harvest, and become mini-speculators. The result is high volatility and firm prices in general.
