At the time of this writing, the constitutionality of the mandate that individuals be required to purchase health insurance is being considered in several federal district courts around the country, and the question is likely to be brought before the United States Supreme Court during its 2011-2012 session. No matter what happens, debates related to this legislation will continue at least until the presidential and congressional election in 2012. National opinion polls have indicated that, while a majority of Americans support intervention and even increased spending in specific areas addressed by the law, at the same time many do not favor increased federal spending (Blendon, Benson, SteelFisher, & Connolly, 2010). 收起
