The study conducted during 2001-02 and 2002-03 showed significant effect of different weed control methods and fertilizer levels on all the growth parameters viz. number of leaves/plant, branches/plant, leaf area and interaodal length. Application of 200 kg N + 50 kg P_2O_5 / ha or 25 tons/ha of FYM produced significantly highest number of leaves, branches and leaf area. Weeds were effectively controlled by manual weeding at 30-day intervals and by the directed spray, of glyphosate at 1.0% solution on product basis 60 days after bud emergence. Manual weeding also produced highest growth characters during both the years. Application of fertilizers even at higher doses was found to have little effect on the all growth parameters of poplar plants in the absence of efficient weed control. 收起
