Equipment distributors and contractors have been told that WA's occupational safety and health regulations require excavators be fitted with ROPS - despite the admission by WorkSafe WA inspectors that it would not be practical to fit the structures to current design machines (Contractor, August 2003). CMEIG's inaugural president, Komatsu Australia executive John Reid, said the emergence of the WA situation highlighted the problem for equipment manufacturers and distributors of having to deal with regulations that changed from state to state.
