Liebherr delivered four excavators to the mine site in June this year, redevelopment and brining the project out of a two-year hibernation. Newcrest's Geoff Fenton said the start-up of the 1.2 billion dollars project had gone well and the excavators - a 996 shovel, a 994 backhoe and two 995 backhoes - were performing to specifications. "We found that Liebherr's reliability, product support and its ability to make a decision quickly offered us the best deal following an extensive tendering process," Fenton said. "An evaluation was carried out across the industry with the 995 backhoe doing 4-5m benches and the 996 shovel doing 10-12m benches and we found out which was best suited in the business with marketplace reliability. As we aim for production of 800,000 tonnes per annum of gold and 30,000tpa of copper, we are expecting the output of the 996 to be 2000 bank cubic metres and the 995 at 1400bcm." 收起
