An editorial on the ethics of critical care is provided. Pain management in critical care is discussed according to the veterinary nurse and technician's perspective. The following topics are reviewed in 6 papers: potential interactions between non-steroidal antiinflammatory drugs and other drugs; painless control of controlled substances; assessment and management of acute pain in cats; analgesia for the pregnant, lactating, neonatal and paediatric cat and dog; analgesia and sedation in the critically ill; and pain management in horses and farm animals.. 收起
