A cw Doppler radar was used to measure the relative velocity of the aircraft with respect to the carrier. The velocity of the wind across the deck was added to the closure velocity, thereby obtaining the true air speed of the landing aircraft. An indicator mounted on the port catwalk presents the information to the landing signal officer. 收起
