Predictive equations based on these correlations were developed using linear regression techniques; the equations showed limited skill. USAFETAC then tried to improve the Heidke skill scores by including more predictor variables chosen by a stepwise regression technique; skill scores improved slightly, but remained below 0.50. Finally, USAFETAC looked for a favored time interval between development of a 10-mb sea-level pressure difference and onset of 25-knot gusts or sustained winds at Malmstrom; there was none. 收起
