The accountability subsystem and associated nuclear materials measurements provide support for the DOE integrated safeguards system. NBL is assigned the mission to: (1) develop and disseminate the application of new or improved methods of chemical and/or instrumental analysis; (2) develop, characterize, and distribute certified reference and calibration materials; (3) evaluate and assess the continuing level of chemical and instrumental measurement performance of government and industrial laboratories involved in the handling of nuclear materials; and (4) provide a variety of specialized measurement services in support of the government's nuclear materials programs. The technical efforts performed in carrying out these assignments are described in secions on development of analytical methods and standards evaluation. (JRD)
