This design approach employs pulsed incandescent lamps in place of xenon flash tubes, and substitutes fluorescent lights for steady burning incandescent sources when feasible. In addition, it sizes wind indicators to the legibility needs of typical secondary airport operations. The major components of the lighting system described in the report include runway edge lights, steady burning approach and threshold lights, wind tee, rotating beacon, glide slope indicator, and obstruction lights. A field test of the prototype is recommended to evaluate the operational usefulness of the low cost lighting. Also recommended, is the initiation of a new wind indicator design, based on the minimum resolution of wind speed and direction needed for secondary airport operations. (Author) 收起
