These areas comprise less than 2 percent of the land in New Mexico and Arizona, but they are the most biologically diverse and productive ecosystems in the arid Southwest. Over 65 percent of Southwestern animals depend on riparian habitats during all or part of their life cycles, and many threatened or endangered species also depend on these sites. 收起
