CHART's mission is to improve efficiency and safety on Maryland's major highways through the application of ITS technology and interagency teamwork. With principle emphasis on the Washington, Baltimore, Annapolis and Frederick Transportation grid, CHART focuses on approximately 375 miles of interstate bi-ways and 170 miles of state highway arterials in this area. The CHART program relies on communication, coordination, and cooperation among agencies and disciplines, both within Maryland and with neighboring states, to foster the teamwork necessary to achieve its goal.
