Design criteria, data, and evaluation techniques that were developed to support the selection of an appropriate windblast protection device concept for the F-15 and F-16 fighter aircraft are described in detail. Several alternate arm and leg-restraint systems were designed, fabricated, and evaluated as part of the research effort. Test fixtures were designed and fabricated to simulate (1) cockpit geometry, (2) force relationships between the seat and man, (3) deployment and retraction of restraints in 0.1 second, and (4) seat/man separation dynamics. The evaluation of restraint concept performance using the prototypes, evaluation plan, and test fixtures is described. The selection criteria to identify the best restraint designs are presented. A test and evaluation plan for airworthiness verification is described to aid follow-on engineering development efforts. (Author) 收起
