Consequently, most large-scale drone missions have multiple charging bays in their path which may not be autonomous and consume significant amounts of time. In order to overcome this issue, this paper proposes a remotely stationed, linear robotic system capable of swapping the used batteries with fully charged ones, while simultaneously allowing the used unit to be charged. The focus of this paper is on the introduction of the battery swapping station's purpose, and its mechanism. Since the application environments and target UAVs can vary vastly, the setup makes use of off-the-shelf components and additive manufacturing to create a lightweight and cost-effective solution. 收起
