Capacitors a... 展开 In order to accurately measure the fuel burn benefit generated by hybrid electric configurations, it is crucial to first quantify the different components' specific power, specific energy, and efficiency capabilities. Capacitors and supercapacitors are hybrid energy storage components that are being explored as an alternative to batteries in a hybrid architecture for aircraft. This paper provides projections of the specific energy of capacitors and supercapacitors all through the year 2050. A database was created with information on a variety of capacitors and supercapacitors, including commercial and research. The database included key performance parameters of specific energy, specific power, power output, current, capacity, resistance, and others, in addition to information about whether it was a commercial supercapacitor or a research one. Three different logistics curves representing the diminishing growth rate of technology were fit through the data point for specific energy representing a conservative, nominal, and aggressive projection scenario. The three scenarios were generated by using the median, 75th, and 100th percentiles of the data points. The inherent uncertainty of the projections was captured by varying the inflection point of the projection from 2020 to 2025 respectively. C-Rate bands were assigned to each of the projections of specific energy so that the specific power of a desired C-Rate can be calculated based on those. Finally, this paper also includes torque projections for electric machines through 2050 and an exploration of the relationship between RPM, torque, and specific power. 收起
