In these environments, maneuvering the rotorcraft safely becomes more difficult. To provide a better training environment for pilots in such scenarios, a modeling and simulation toolset capable of producing dynamic, variable fidelity generation of the dust cloud in real-time that can be connected to a flight simulator is critical. Physics-based models are preferable in such a situation so that they can be flexible to different environmental considerations for which the flight simulator is operating; however, such model descriptions must be flexible to tradeoff fidelity, accuracy, and responsiveness. This paper describes an approach to this issue using the integration of variable fidelity models through a common simulation framework, the Dynamic Model Integration and Simulation Engine. The integrated models are defined in a software tool called Achuron to process flight simulator data into a dynamic flow field response, entrain particles within the flow field, and then render the resulting cloud.
