摘要: Owing to the difficulty in understanding and modeling the complex flow pattern and recirculated gas temperature and oxygen concentration of aero-propulsion pilot combustors, we propose a simplified approach to produce specific hig... 展开 Owing to the difficulty in understanding and modeling the complex flow pattern and recirculated gas temperature and oxygen concentration of aero-propulsion pilot combustors, we propose a simplified approach to produce specific high-temperature, high-pressure conditions with high levels of control in a vitiated (premixed combustion) spray chamber. The spray chamber is prepared with relatively quiescent gases at representative thermodynamic conditions of the central or outer recirculation zone in swirl-stabilized combustors, including elevated temperature and reduced oxygen concentration. Aviation fuels are injected from a single-hole pressure atomizer into this environment for extended, but limited, injection durations. During transient fuel injection, autoignition or forced ignition ensue, ultimately producing a steady flame for substantial observation periods without significant change to the charge gas outside of the spray (the ambient gas). Aviation combustor conditions important to soot formation and emissions such as cruise and takeoff are selected using this approach. With full optical access, advanced diagnostics are applied to quantify flame structure, soot precursors, soot formation and oxidation, soot size and morphology, and so forth. The fine control of boundary conditions and pressures up to 60 bar for future combustors provides datasets useful for straightforward CFD model evaluation of candidate sustainable aviation fuels. Several target thermodynamic conditions (ambient temperature, pressure and fuel temperature) have been chosen for focused research in this area, with example measurements at one operating condition shown in this study. Efforts to reproduce these gas-turbine conditions in other constant-volume preburn chambers are encouraged, similar to the philosophy adopted in the Engine Combustion Network international collaboration. 收起
