Three trapezoidal test coupons, with dimensions suitable for first-row gas turbi... 展开 This study presents a thorough evaluation of the potential of latticework (vortex) cooling channels produced via direct metal laser sintering (DMLS). Three trapezoidal test coupons, with dimensions suitable for first-row gas turbine blade trailing edge applications in power generation, were implemented with latticework cooling channels and manufactured using Inconel 718 (IN718). The parameters that are involved in designing for additive manufacturing (AM) and technological advancements in the field deem latticework cooling channels with a crossing angle of 45-degrees well suited for DMLS. Compared to traditional trailing edge cooling techniques, latticework cooling channels provide a greater structural rigidity with an inherent increase in pressure drop. Internal surface treatment of the channels was varied in order to observe the variance in the achievable discharge coefficient. As the sCO2 power cycle requires much smaller turbomachinery components, 3D-printed components are of interest for which a lattice cooling structure can be leveraged. A conjugate heat transfer approach is used to determine the overall heat transfer coefficient in a 6" coupon and a 1" scaled coupon for sCO2. Heat transfer and pressure drop results are presented for Reynolds numbers from 10,000 and 20,000, respectively. The purpose of this paper is to bridge the gap between research and the application of vortex channels leading to a holistic assessment of the implementation potential in large-scale and small-scale turbomachinery. Although the resulting metal temperatures were lower for the lattice structure, the thermal performance index for a classical pin fin array was higher, mainly due to its lower pressure drop. 收起
