The size and robustness of the CNT network and the thickness of the interphase influence the crack propagation of the CNT membrane nanocomposite. BP membrane is heterogenous at nano- and sub-micron length scales. These inhomogeneities affect the macroscale mechanical response of BP membranes due to the local elastic modulus mismatch among CNT particles, the CNT networks, and the polymer. Atomic Force Microscopy-based Peak Force Quantitative Nanomechanics Mapping (PFQNM) technique was used to quantify the nano- and micro-properties of CNT networks and interphase. Double Cantilever Beam (DCB), End Notched Flexure (ENF), and Mixed Mode Bending (MMB) specimens were used for the characterization of multi-modal interlaminar fracture properties. The authors used the Weibull model to examine material properties' statistical distribution. Weibull statistics link the probability of an event, such as CNT network size and interphase thickness, to the fracture properties. 收起
