A post-processing calculation of the refractive index, which considers the translational temperature distribution and effects of the vibrational non-equilibrium, was performed. Calculations showed a high enthalpy pure nitrogen flow at M=8.7 exhibits small amounts of vibrational nonequilibrium, which impacts the refractive index by approximately 1% at the wedge tip. A Michelson interferometer was used to verify the model, and some agreement was found. A direct comparison is made between the experimentally-captured and the theoretical refractive index fields, which indicate the current model overestimates the observed refractive index change at the shock front. 收起
