This essentially involves applying the principles of abstraction and decomposition to identify elemental ("digital") building blocks that are both scalable and easily re-configured, enabling complexity and diversity to be derived from simple constituents. The application of these principles in this way is referred to as being an engineer's 6th sense. By asserting that all computational representations of physical shape are either idealised, approximate, or both, the concept of spatial awareness is introduced. The knowledge of and ability to effect controlled regulation of such idealisations or approximations are key tenets of spatial awareness. Examples are provided to demonstrate that the basic underlying principles may be applied not only to the modelling of physical dimensions, but to other physical properties and behaviours as well. Illustrations are also provided to show how the insights arising from spatial awareness may be used to form a fertile basis for establishing "validation dialog" -bringing various stakeholder communities together for mutual benefit to address the diverse challenges posed by the validation of advanced modelling techniques. 收起
