Mining operations are spread out almost all over the country for extraction of around 64 major minerals from more than 3100 mines ( excluding atomic, minor minerals, petroleum and natural gas ) ( IMYB, 2004 ). Chromite is one of the important metallic minerals in which the country is self-sufficient. It is not only catering to the needs of the domestic industry but also earning considerable amount of foreign exchange through export. India is one of the leading producers and exporters of this mineral in the world. In the present paper the over all environment impact due to chromite mining, processing, etc., and their possible remedies have been discussed. 收起
