At first, the ... 展开 The problem of road traffic noise is one of the serious social problems among industrialized and developing countries . In this paper, the present situation and future subjects of this problem in Japan are reviewed. At first, the current situation of road traffic noise and the administrative countermea-sures are briefly introduced. From the technological viewpoint, the progress of regulation of vehicle noise emission and various kinds of noise reduction technologies are introduced. Regarding the assessment method (noise indices) for road traffic noise, which is now being seriously discussed in Japan, its historical course and future problems are briefly described. As for the prediction of road traffic noise, the calculation methods proposed by the Acoustic Society of Japan are outlined. Lastly, as future subjects, it is pointed out that on-the-vehicle noise source control, improvement of road structures, traffic control, development of roadside buildings, and improvement of noise prediction methods should be further developed. In addition, the importance of urban planning, economic and transport systems, legal and administrative measures, and socio-psychological approaches are discussed. 收起
