A simple picture describes the results of recent treatments of partially- -condensed, dilute, trapped Bose gases at temperature T > 0. The conden- sate wave function is nearly identical to that of a T=0 condensed with the same number of condensate atoms, No. The cloud of non-condensed atoms is described by the statistical mechanics of an ideal Bose gas in the com- bined potentials of the magnetic trap and the cloud-condensed interaction. We provide a physical motivation for this result, show how it emerges in The Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov-popov approximation, and explore some of Its implications for future experiments.

The 'critical group' concept provides a robust means of demonstrating compliance with radiological dose limits set for routine effluent discharges arising for operational nuclear plants. Calculating the average dose to members of the critical group based on reasonable 'maximising assumptions' offers a defensible degree of conservatism in demonstrating compliance with the dose limits and, in principle, the identification of a 'relatively homogeneous' group, representative of those individuals in the population expected to receive the highest radiation dose, appears to offer no difficulties.
